Thai Massage

What is Thai Massage?

Thai massage aka Thai bodywork or nuad boran is a form of massage from Thailand. It is done on a low mat on the floor and there is no disrobing. It looks and feels like a rhythmic massage plus stretching and acupressure. Practitioners are taught to offer the concept of metta, loving kindness, in each press. It can be intense or gentle. 


Beth's Thai Training

Beth's Thai  training is from teachers Sarah Cski and Thai native and Thai traiditional doctor Sararut Roylance in the Shivagokomarpaj lineage, She has also studied with Tiiu Gennert in the Lotus Palm tradition and taken additional training in functional anatomy from Chuck Duff at Coaching the Body.

Beth's Philosophy

Thai massage aka bodywork is known for being intense. It certainly can be AND... we have nervous systems that can become overloaded with too much pressure. That feels like fight, flight, freeze, etc. Not ideal when you're trying to relax! After an intake, you and Beth talk about needs, goals and pressure. The dialogue continues as needed during the massage to make sure you get the "Goldilocks" experience: "juuuust right!"

How do I prepare for Thai Massage?

  • -Avoid food for 2 hours before your massage if possible. Some people don't feel well if they lie down after eating. 
  • Wear comfortable, modest clothes you can move in. Sweats or yoga pants and a t-shirt work well.
  • Come well-hydrated

What to expect at your session?


You'll meet Beth and fill out a waiver and intake. You'll then talk about your needs, goals and any pain you have. Next you'll remove your shoes and come to the mat. Socks can stay on or go in your shoes. The massage will begin and Beth will adjust the pressure or stretches to meet your needs on that day. Pressure typically starts broad with rhythmic palm presses and progress to finger or thumb pressure with stretches sprinkled in along the way. You may be on your back, side, belly or seated depending on your needs. The massage ends with light pressure at the ears and some words of well-being in the ancient language of Pali. Clients can then rest for a few minutes afterward. Beth will check in with you before you leave and again in a day or two.
